The name HEMI has become synonymous with BIG and POWERFUL and these types of engines helped to shape the state of the art in racing and street cars during their time on the market. HEMI Engines have a hemispherical combustion chamber that was great for efficient airflow and torque. The Chryster 426 HEMI Engine was so fast in 1964 that in 1965 it was banned from NASCAR races. Manufacturers such as Chrysler (FirePower Engine), DeSoto (FireDome Engine), Dodge (Red Ram Engine), and Plymouth were in aggressive competition during what is often called the "Horsepower Wars". The HEMI engine was popular in production cars during the 50's and early 70's in cars and also in racing as one of the fastest engines on the market. For over 25 years, Eddie has been excited about restoring the original beauty and performance of HEMI engines and American Muscle Cars.

I built this for resale and it was a great race engine. Crane supplied the Camshaft and the roller rockers. It was a 1967 engine that had closed chambered 915 casting heads. My second 440 I bought from a friends stepson in 1999.I bought the whole car. This engine powered a 1968 Barracuda fastback that I restored. Of course new valves, springs and guide inserts. Heads were a 346 casting and received a three angle valve job. It was in a garage for several years before I bought it. I bought it from an ad in the local Pennysaver. I can't tell you how much went into each one, but let's just say a lot! All of my projects, such as the wedge engines, take time for a great rebuild. The wedge heads are less sophisticated and are less expensive. These engines are a lot like the late model Hemi because they both have a deep skirted block, for additional strength. In between building Hemi engines ,I built 440 wedge engines.
